The space around us seems to have

only one specific purpose left:

to provide a network for the increasing

streams of traffic.

Just as oceans and rivers are important

to logistics on earth, the air has

become a network of flight, with

airplanes, satellites and other manmade

objects.

In his new work Michiel Schierbeek has

tried to show these networks and

movements.

He concentrates on the use of the

space that surrounds us, as we

experience it on a daily basis in the

constant stream of movement caused

by the take-offs and landings of planes,

the sailing back and forth of freight and

pleasure ships and the racing of trucks

and other vehicles

His new watercolours are imaginary

bird's eye views of these traffic networks.

Through Google Earth Schierbeek

surveys the earth, while also using

existing or abstracted plans of harbours,

traffic junctions and airports.

Moreover, he photographs these

movements in real life on the spot.
